Water is something we use mindlessly on a daily basis, we drink, eat and clean with water, but for me water is also a great inspiration to my art. The month of May brings an awareness theme that is close to my heart – Water Saving Week. Not only is the pollution in our seas a concern, but of course also the huge importance of saving water.

Water Saving Week is hosted by ‘Waterwise’; an independent non-profit organization whose aim is to promote water efficiency. This year’s focus highlights the vital link between climate change and water efficiency, spreading the word about how important saving water is for coping with climate change and keeping our environment healthy.

It is important that we stay vigilant with our water consumption. What many of us don’t realize is that much of the water we use is taken from rivers and lakes that wildlife relies on to survive. Climate change is not helping either, the warmer temperatures – especially during summer and autumn- will increase the number of droughts and also harm wildlife even more.

As you may know, I am increasingly concerned about water, especially pollution in our oceans and in particular plastic waste that is killing wildlife and washing up on our beaches. My recent paintings draw attention to these issues. They capture intangible moments in time and space. Water in all its depths, complexity and purity is depicted. I have perfected a method of incorporating hand painting with multiple paint pouring and my mixed media technique is unique, embracing collage as a means to create texture.

The water theme is further enhanced by a resin finish that produces an incredibly lustrous effect.

This Water Saving Week stay tuned on social media as Waterwise (@waterwise) will be sharing lots of facts as well as ideas and tips to help us become more water efficient. Also, all my water paintings benefit ‘Ocean Conservancy’, so by purchasing a painting, you will receive a beautiful artwork as well as support a worthwhile cause. Together we can help to save water and keep our Earth alive for as long as possible for generations to come.
